Our fantastic Autumn term

Autumn calls for Harvest time.  We rolled up our sleeves and learnt to become expert bread makers.  It was important to leave our bread to rise before baking it; our freshly baked rolls were delicious at snack time.

Our main topic was Celebrations.  We loved exploring some of the world’s religions and cultures.  Having visitors explain to us how Hindus and Muslims celebrate was really engaging and we enjoyed further explored our new knowledge and understanding in our role play and art work.

In the second half of Autumn term, with the children so settled, we were all astounded to see the children so maturely learn their lines, songs and dances for the Nativity play Hey Ewe!  We cannot put into words how proud we were of the children in all their performances.

Settling in

As I am sure you can all agree the first few weeks of term have been extremely busy and exciting for all of us! The children have settled really well into the new school routines. The morning starts with 'finger strong' where the children are building strong shoulder, arm and finger muscles through a variety of structured activities.

Making new school friends does not stop in the classroom. The children really enjoy being able to play and learn in both classrooms, as well as in the outdoor classroom during free-flow sessions. It is great to join in with their games and see them collaborating in their fun. As a unit we love singing and dancing; we have been learning the 'Jelly Bear Rap' in PE. The children also love sharing their favourite songs and nursery rhymes and often teach us and their friends.

Meeting their Year 6 buddies has certainly been one of the highlights of the past few weeks! As well as playing games with the children at lunch times they have been coming in to class once a week to get to know their buddy even better. This culminated in the Reception children showing Year 6 their learning from the topic 'Marvellous Me!'. Being able to draw round their friends with big chalks on the playground was an exciting way to end the week!
